My opinion in two words: LOVE IT. The harmony that comes from this group is so soulful. A friend of mine turned me onto this group about a year ago. I fell in love with several of their songs from previous records – Boondocks and A Little More You are among my faves. I feel like this new album though has the potential to really showcase their talent and put them over the top.

The hit single Little White Church just makes me want to DANCE. It’s one of those songs that when it comes on the radio – well let’s just say it’s rather fun to sing along with. Or rather belt IT out. I hope no one has seen me when I’m driving to that song.

Lean Into It brought me to tears the first time I listened to it. And I have been walking around with The Reason Why stuck in my head for the past two days! You can listen to the album for free right now at http://littlebigtown.com/media/albums/reason-why

Enjoy!

Food for Thought

When I was in Port Aransas this last weekend, a friend of mine went with me on Sunday morning to scrounge up some breakfast. We ended up at Bundy's, a charming little coffee house. On our way out a small table with a flower painted on the top of it caught my eye. I wandered over to it and this quote was also painted on the table:

"The love of God toward you, is like the Amazon river flowing down to a single flower........F.B. Meyer"

I now wish I had taken a picture of the table so you could see it. But I loved the quote. Hope it makes you pause and think like it did for me!

The Boys of Fall

Two things I love. One = Football. Two = Kenny Chesney. Now you put those two things together and you’ve got Kenny Chesney singing a song about football. I definitely got a little nostalgic for the days when my lil' bro played quarterback the first time I watched KC’s music video for The Boys of Fall. Back then Friday nights were all about the sounds and sights of high school football. I loved going to watch him play. I think this video and song really captures the essence of that something special that happens on the field. Even if you’re not a big KC fan – you should watch the video. Watch out. You might just become a fan yourself.

http://www.cmt.com/videos/kenny-chesney/547722/the-boys-of-fall.jhtml

Girlz just wanna have fu-un!

This past weekend a group of about 15 of my closest friends from high school and beyond packed up our bags and headed to Port Aransas for a quick beach trip. We managed to fit everyone into a four bedroom house located right on the beach. Yea you know you really like each other when you fit that many people who are not related into a house! It was a blast. Friday night we stayed up ‘til after 1 playing Mafia. Saturday was spent with my “toes in the water, bum in the sand, not a worry in the world, glass of wine in my hand.” Yep life was good that day! Above is a picture of all the girlz doing one of the things we do best together – drinking vino! I heart my friends. So thankful for them. And so thankful for Beach Trip 2010. This trip will definitely become an annual tradition. His new album just came out yesterday (which we scored early at the show), so he was doing a free show for publicity. The show was awesome! Not only can this guy sing and write great songs - he is hilarious! It makes the performance so much more fun when the singers show their personality from the stage. From all my concert going days the singers who showed the most personality from stage include Keith Urban, Lady A, Sugarland and Luke Bryan. The least personality shown from the stage include Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood. Not that their concerts weren't great - because they were. They just chose to mostly entertain via their music. Which that's cool. But it really adds another element when the entertainer lets their guard down and you get to hear where the song came from or why they chose to record it. So long story short if you ever get the chance to see newcomer Jerrod Niemann live - DO IT. :) You won't be disappointed.

SMILE!

I think everyone should be able to smile about this. :)

Friends Make the World Go Round

This past Saturday was my 10 year high school reunion. Say what? Yea you heard me. 10 years! Goodnight time is flying by. What I love most about the past 10 years is that the crowd I went with to the reunion was just like any other typical Saturday night. Our group of girls was one tight knit group in high school. And we have stayed tight over the past 10 years. I have been so blessed by this group of gals. Each one is so special and dear to me. Beautiful on the outside - and most importantly on the inside. I love that we keep up on a weekly if not daily basis. Through time we have all definitely grown up and changed. For the better. We've been there for the good times and the bad times. But thankfully most of it has been all good. Three weddings and a baby later. With lots more weddings and babies to come. And memories. Oh the memories. Friends definitely do make the world go round. For me anyways.

"He's a good time cowboy casanova....."

I was going through my camera today and I came across some pictures from.....Carrie Underwood! Not necessarily live shows. But album wise. Two albums were released this week that I have been eagerly anticipating. And wowzers - they did not disappoint.

First Brett Younker released The New Has Come. This album release is near and dear to my heart because my extremely talented musician cousin Paul Whittinghill plays the drums on this album. Not to mention the album is one of the best collections of worship songs I have heard in a very long time. The boys even got a shout out from Chris Tomlin on Twitter on CD release day. You know the album is out of this world when a veteran like Chris is showing the love. So you should check it out!

The second album that I was so excited for was Lee Brice's debut album Love Like Crazy. I blogged about his hit single Love Like Crazy not too long ago. And his album is out of this world! He is such a talented song writer, musician and vocalist. It's not very often you find someone with all of those talents in the mainstream music industry these days. Lee has written hits for the likes of Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. This guy is going to be huge. Mark my words. I can feel it. I can't WAIT to see him live. Beautiful Every Time is probably my fave. But then again, I don't think I can honestly chose a fave out of his album. Yes it's that good people.

Just trust me. Download these two albums. Have I ever lead you wrong? ;)

Tumbling Dice

Check out this video. It was my first time to The Parish. I personally love the venue. Love the feel. Love the size (small). And of course I love me some Dierks so it was a win win situation. I am a huge fan of several of his songs. "Sideways" is a big crowd pleaser. "Feel That Fire" is the first Dierks song I fell in love with. And "What Was I Thinkin" is a def Dierks classic. All in all, it was a fantastic show. I would for sure go see him live again!

Music Video: Love Like Crazy

Well not too long after I posted about my love for Lee Brice's song "Love Like Crazy" - the music video premiers! Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a horse."

Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a horse" but I did not once feel slighted. Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a horse" and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a horse" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a horse," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."

"Just a horse" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a horse" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a horse" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a horse" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment. "Just a horse" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a horse" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a horse" just smile, because they "just" don't understand.

~author unknown

Love Like Crazy

So it's a little known secret that I love country music. Okay so it's not a secret at all. If you don't know that I love country music...well then you don't know me very well at all. I get really excited when I find new artists that I like. Lee Brice is one of them. The first time I heard his song "Love Like Crazy" on the radio, it was one of those moments where I stopped thinking about whatever was on my mind and turned up the music really loud to hear the song. I have listened to the song a couple of times every day for the past week now. Listen to it. You will Love it. Like crazy.

They called them crazy when they started out
<span I am leasing a new horse! Romanique (Roman) is a Bay Thoroughbred jumper mare. She has been boarding for the past couple of years at my bff’s stable, Steep Hollow Farm, in College Station. I am so excited to have something to ride regularly again. I’ve also had this crazy desire to try out the jumpers so Miss Roman will be the perfect teacher for me. She is coming to Austin on Sunday so I am sure some pictures will follow soon! Thanks to Christian for making this possible!

Thank God for good directions....and Billy Currington

My favorite country music guy, Billy Currington, came to the Austin Rodeo last night. It was awesome. Minus some sound issues. But nevertheless he sounded great live as always. And he is oh so fun to look at…..I mean listen to….I mean look at and listen to….sigh. One slight change to his “People are Crazy” lyrics last night: “God is great. Beer is good. And I had rockin’ seats to the sold out show! It has been years since I have been to the rodeo. My return trip back was so much fun! I absolutely loved the barrel racing. The bronco riders have my utmost respect. Even though I think they are crazy for wanting to ride a bull! And Lady Antebellum of course brought the house down. This was my second time to see them live. They put on a great show and their ability to produce awesome harmony is hard to beat live. I love how it’s so obvious they have a blast on stage. Hillary Scott dances around the stage the whole time. Charles Kelly has some moves of his own. And Dave Haywood is an extremely talented musician. The whole stadium was belting out the lyrics to Need You Now and I Run To You. We had a blast! Now I have to wait a week to see my all time favorite country guy – BILLLY CURRINGTON. Oh you know there will be a post following THAT concert. Complete with pictures. It’s hard to imagine he came into my life 15 years ago. We really did "grow up" together. I have been so blessed to have him in my life. He has taught me so many valuable lessons including the real meaning of hard work, patience, and perseverance. He definitely made a name for himself in the Central Texas show ring. It makes me really proud to hear people reminisce about our years of success together in the show ring. Now that the show days are behind us, I am so thankful that I have been given the chance to give him the retired life that he so deserves! Here are a couple of pictures of us through the years. My thoughts exactly! So when the stars aligned just right I jumped at the chance to work with the amazingly talented Atlanta, GA photographer Christi Dillon. Christi is a good family friend of my cousins who live in Georgia. I had seen the family portraits she had done for my cousin Catherine and I fell head over heels for her work. I had planned a trip to Atlanta for a family wedding and Christi had the Sunday afternoon available after the wedding for the photo shoot which worked out perfectly. The dynamic duo (my cousins Cath and Liz) did a fabulous job as my personal hair and make up stylists. Then we loaded up in Christi’s van and headed out to a posh polo farm outside of Atlanta. We stopped at two other sites as well: a closed down ancient looking oil refinery and the old warehouse district of Canton, GA. All of the sites Christi chose for the shoot were so incredibly creative. I haven’t had that much fun in a very long time. Something about getting all dressed up for the camera just makes a girl feel good. The first time I saw the preview of the photo shoot I was speechless. I posted couple of my favorites below. Christi’s work speaks for itself. She is talented beyond words. I thought, what the heck, I should search online to see if any tickets are still available. So I went online to the Texas Box Office and did a little search for best available tickets and the words FLOOR pop up on my screen. I sat stunned for about 20 seconds just staring at the screen. Then I begin furiously looking for my credit card all while trying not to scream my head off in my office. All I could think was I was going to get to see John Mayer from the floor….for box office price! Lord have mercy! My friend Nicole from the barn (a fellow John Mayer enthusiast) was my date to the show. To sum it up in one word the show was AMAZING! We had a blast. He opened with Heartbreak Warfare which is one of my faves. Why Georgia brought the house down. And a dude proposed to his girlfriend during Gravity. Sweet. I was really hoping he would play Edge of Desire but no such luck. That’s ok. I’ll always remember the show. Oh and did I mention that I also came down laryngitis the day before the show? Yeah that did not stop this chick from singing her heart out and dancing her bootie off!

Hiatus Is Over.

So I took a hiatus from blogging.

Now I'm back.

Back again.

And the crowd roars.

Thank you. I'm even listening to it right now as I blog. So.....go now and download. You will be really glad you did...promise! :) Also, found this review on the album and I think it hits home. Somehow my all time fave country music artists have all toured in Texas between the months of April and July. Billy Currington and Sugarland were in Austin in April. Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney were in San Antonio in May. Billy Currington came back to Texas at the end of May. And now Keith Urban is coming to Dallas in July. Phew - seriously loving all of these artists touring in Texas! Here are a couple of pics from three of the concerts. More pics to come I'm sure from Keith Urban ;)

Billy Currington!

Kenny Chesney

Miranda Lambert with her oh so rockin pink guitar!

Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles - this girl has some serious pipes!

Sugarland!

So much to say!

Wow I have really neglected my blog! My goal is to write once a day to catch up on everything that has been going on! First I will start with the Jamaica trip. It was SO much fun. The beach was absolutely gorgeous and we just had a blast. From the good food to the fun people we went with it was an all around good time. Mike's sister's wedding was really beautiful. I told Mike if I had to do the whole wedding ceremony thing over again that I might opt for the beach scene...so he said to keep that in mind whenever we choose to renew our vows :) Deal! Here are some fun pics from the trip.

Wedding shot.

Pretty Beach!

It would not be a vacation without a blooper pic featuring Michael Riley!

Jamaica!

Yes!! I just realized we leave for Jamaica in less than 48 hrs! Mike's sister, Megan, is have her dream beach side ceremony in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Sunday. And we are so lucky to be going! It's a quick trip - fly out Saturday and fly back Tuesday - we are excited for this sweet get-away. We are staying at the Sandals Montego Bay Resort. It's both of our first times to stay at an all inclusive resort - and then add the adult only addition to that ;) I am sure I will have lots of pictures to post when we come back. Amongst the sadness there is the joy that she is at home with our Father, no longer suffering. For that we can be thankful for. The priest's closing words were a verse that you often hear at funerals "Well done good and faithful servant" (Mat 25:23). I hope whenever my time comes those are the words used to describe me.

Magoo is in Austin!

A little over a week ago Magoo (my horse) moved to Austin...well technically Manor. For the past two years Magoo has lived in Bryan, TX at Steep Hollow Farm, my bff's barn. I spent so many wonderful weekends over the past two years in BCS filled with wonderful horse and friend time. We will really miss Steep Hollow Farm and our friends there! But as of late it was starting to become really hard to get to Bryan on the weekends to ride so we decided it was best to move Magoo closer to Austin. So his new digs are at Scattered Oaks Farm in Manor. Both Magoo and I are very happy his new home. Magoo settled in really well pretty fast - he has already become obsessed with his very sweet and laid back turnout buddy Scotch. And everyone has been really welcoming and nice at the barn which has been wonderful as well. This past week I have been able to go out to the barn almost everyday which has been beyond what words can describe. I had forgotten how wonderful it was to have the barn to look forward to after the day's work had been done. I am so thankful that not only is Magoo super happy with his new home but I am too. Hopefully I will have some pics of Magoo in his new digs to post soon!

iPhone Addiction

So my parents bought me an iPhone for Christmas. Mike and I had been with Sprint for a long time but our contract was up and we were free to shop around. After cell phone shopping for several days, we came to the conclusion that we could get just as good of a deal at AT&T as we did at Sprint, plus Mike got a free new phone which he really needed, and I got my iPhone. It was a win win situation. Let me just say that after having this phone for a little over two months now….I’m pretty much obsessed. I can check Facebook, Google, get GPS directions, play solitaire, play checkers, search for restaurants and movies, listen to my iTunes music, and the list goes on and on. I was a little worried about AT&T’s service because some people had told me they got better signals with Sprint. But I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the service! Our Sprint phones never worked in my parent’s house – and our AT&T phones work perfectly in their house! I really don’t know how I ever lived without this phone. The only thing that has changed is I can no longer text in the car while driving because of the touch pad….but some people would dare to say that’s a good thing ;) If you are thinking of switching over to AT&T I highly recommend the iPhone. Just beware…..you too will develop an obsession!

The Bachelor

I can’t believe I am blogging about The Bachelor but I am. So this season was about “the single dad from Seattle” Jason Mesnick. Who of course was Deanna’s reject from The Bachelorette. I was super excited they made Jason the Bachelor this season because like America, I thought this guy was such great guy and amazing father and of course wanted to root for him to find true love. And then wham – comes the finale and I, like a good portion of America, am shocked. For those who didn’t watch it, Jason proposed to one of the final two girls at the end of the show. Then a couple of months later he breaks up with his fiancée and asks the reject girl to give him a shot. And reject girl said yes! WHAT?!?!?! Seriously?! First of all I find it highly suspicious that this “Blogger Steve” totally called what was going to happen a couple of weeks before the finale aired. I don’t know what to think anymore….is the show scripted?.....did the producers tell Jason to pull this stunt?......or did he really do this out of his own accord? All I can say is that I am over this show. I totally lost “respect” if you can call it that and I’m over it. Needless to say, Mike is overjoyed that he will no longer have to watch another episode of The Bachelor ;)

Sugarland!

Sugarland is coming to Austin! I have always given him a hard time for loving sushi. Always asking “How do you manage to eat raw fish – gross!” Well I am eating my words now because he somehow talked me into going to eat sushi one night over Christmas break. I tried it – and loved it. I normally eat it about once a week now. I have tried several sushi restaurants in Austin but my fave by far is Osaka off of Anderson Mill Road. If you’re in Austin and you love sushi – go there. I promise you will not be disappointed. A couple of things I have discovered about my sushi loving taste buds – they like salmon more than tuna but I will eat tuna. Spicy Salmon rolls are the bomb. And they really like the vegetable rolls – I know I know – veggie rolls aren’t quote on quote sushi. But hey – I am all for discovering more ways to eat veggies that are delish!

Grammy's Kodak Moment

I was watching the Grammy’s last Sunday and I think it was one of the best awards shows I have seen in a long time. Watching Justin Timberlake bring down the house with Al Green was pretty awesome. And of course I was dancing on the couch watching ColdPlay perform. Those guys are so fun to watch live…and then well I love their music so there’s that too. But I truly think the Kodak moment of the night was when Neil Diamond was singing Sweet Caroline and he started to walk down the steps of the stage into the audience – when the camera panned out you saw Paul McCartney just jamming away to the song. I doubled over laughing – it was so great. To see one legend so excited to dance and sing along to another legend. It was priceless!

Did You Know

So there is a viral “25 Things about Me” going around on Facebook. I decided to blog about this first and then post on Facebook. PS….I am obsessed with Facebook. It’s unhealthy – it’s the number 1 reason I wanted an iPhone. Oh well that should be a totally different blog entry. Back to “25 Things about Me”!

1) I love classical music – I’m obsessed with Itzhak Perlman.
2) Growing up math was my least favorite subject yet I deal with numbers all day long in my job.
3) I met my husband country western dancing and I thought he looked like Tim McGraw (my husband says God blinded me).
4) Pink = half the clothes in my closet.
5) Mr. Darcy and Ron Weasley are my two most favorite characters – if you don’t know who they are then you just aren’t cool.
6) I love that my husband calls me Beloved.
7) My middle named is Loving – after Oliver Loving – my great(to the third) grandfather who was one of the first men to blaze cattle into Texas with Charles Goodnight. Hence the infamous Goodnight-Loving Trail. And why is the family not in the cattle business? I don’t know.
8) I miss my grandparents so much it hurts.
9) My secret wish is to some day finish a book I have started.
10) I have owned my horse twice.
11) Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal of the day.
12) I almost always fall asleep while watching one of the following moves: Pride and Prejudice, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Enchanted, The Devil Wears Prada, Friends, (or The Office if my husband beats me to bed).
13) I was on the Texas Rowing Team my freshman year in college.
14) Back in 2000 I sat next to Heath Ledger on a plane.
15) I have an affliction for designer purses – I blame my grandmother for that.
16) My favorite place to be is a) on a horse or b) reading a book on the beach.
17) I heart coffee. I am trying to only drink decaf now but it’s really hard!
18) Every time I come home no matter what my day has been like I smile because my dog acts like she hasn’t seen me in a year and goes bananas because she is so happy to see me.
19) Austin has been my home for 25 years.
20) I could spend hours everyday in Barnes and Noble – I love the smell of books.
21) I would like to go back to school at some point for a MBA.
22) Over the course of my life my family has had 6 dogs, 2 horses, 1 rabbit, 3 hamsters, 5 birds, numerous fish, and a partridge in a pear tree.
23) Christmas is my favorite time of the year.
24) Sushi is my new fave food.
25) The song “It Happens” by Sugarland is about my life.

Happenings

Wow - it's been way too long since I blogged last. Happy New Year! I can't even begin to explain how ecstatic I am that 2009 is here! 2008 was a very hard year as most everyone knows - I said goodbye to two beloved grandparents and dealt with numerous health issues. However I do have a highlight of the year and that was showing my horse Magoo for the 2008 show year. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to show him this past year - something I never dreamed in a million years would come true but it did! So amidst the trials and sadness of the past year I will always be thankful for that opportunity.

We do have a new addition to the extended family - my brother received an 8 week old Chocolate Lab puppy for Christmas. We are so happy to have Homer Belknap as part of the family. Greta is slowly getting used to her new cousin. They do really great when playing outside. Playing inside is a different matter though - although I do have to say she has only bitten him twice so that's not too bad right? :)

Christmas was bittersweet - it definitely was not the same without my grandparents. But it reminded me that Christmas is about our Savior and Lord's birth - and what makes it even more special is to celebrate it with the ones you love. So I hope from now on to really soak in holiday time with family and friends and not get caught up in the business of the season that can sometimes take over.

Mike and I celebrated our 4th year wedding anniversary on December 30th! Wow the Lord has blessed us over these four years. We have had so much fun together and we cannot wait to see what the Lord brings our way in 2009!

We spent New Years Eve with family and friends. A very yummy dinner at Z Tejas made it even better!

January 1st Mike and I packed up our bags and headed off to Washington DC for our annual anniversary trip. We had two full days to explore all DC has to offer. The highlights of our trip included Arlington Cemetery (Mike's fave) and The National Gallery of Art (my fave). I will also always have a very wonderful memory of visiting the Louis Vuitton store in DC :)

This weekend Mike and I are headed off to Houston with the Kings to enjoy the THJA banquet (related to all the horse stuff). We are ready to have a rockin good time! Hopefully I will have good pictures to post next week!

Update

Not too much new to add here. Things have been hectic. We moved all of our belongings into a POD about a week ago and we are staying with my rents for the moment. My brother had another seizure this last week while he was at school (Ole Miss). Please be praying for him. He is home now - and he will go through tests soon to see if they can discover why he had another one while on seizure meds. Both of our "disorders" are really not understood by the medical community - and you really can't express the frustration that comes with the "not knowing why" fully unless you have gone through something like it yourself. Which I hope you never have to go through. But PTL we have much to be thankful for. We are all trying to get into the Christmas spririt but I have to admit this year has been tough. Mike and I will be doing the "Tour of Texas" again this year to see all of his family. If I don't sign on again before Christmas...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

My Yummy

I haven’t been able to blog for awhile – mainly because I knew I would want to write about my beloved grandmother – but I just couldn’t. How do I put the woman into words who I have loved so dearly as far back as I can remember? It’s going to be a tough feat and I still probably will not be able to convey what my Yummy means to me. But I am going to give it a go.

A little over a week ago we laid to rest my beloved grandmother Yummy. She was a sister, wife, mother, friend and my most dear grandmother. The type of grandmother you read about in fairy tales. The elegant, graceful, beautiful grandmother whom you could always run to and tell her your craziest dreams and she would help you reach for them. As far back as I can remember I have always wanted to be just like her. First of all – the woman had serious class. People would always remark what a classy lady she was – she had style that not many people can rival. She’s one of the few women I have known in my life who can be dripping in diamonds on an average run of your mill day, running around doing errands, looking totally blissfully normal.

Oh and she was incredibly funny. There are too many “Yummyisms” to name – but a few would be her infamous “Give me a Break!”, “Well that’s just swell”, “Oh Heavenly days”, and of course I love my name that I was always called by, “My precious Brook”. In fact those were the last words she said to me before she went home to be with the Lord.

Oh how I am going to miss her – right now I miss her so much it hurts – the holidays are going to be so strange without her. She made everything so beautiful this time of the year. She could cook like no other – I have memories of Thanksgiving and Christmas meals that would rival what a professional chef could whip up. She was feisty as all get out – stubborn like no other – I come from a long line of strong stubborn women! We shared a love of horses – as an avid equestrian herself she understood completely what it meant to be in love with an 1100 lb majestic animal – and the thrill that comes with riding one. She understood my love so much that she made so many of my equestrian endeavors possible – she bought me my first pony, Revision. And then my horse Magoo – technically she bought Magoo for me twice – that’s a whole story in itself. I always looked forward to seeing her – just hanging out with her was so fun.

And oh the shopping trips we took together. A shopping trip with Yummy was always amazing – I completely blame her for my love of fine designer clothes and accessories. From St. Johns to Chanel – Yummy was always exquisitely dressed to the nines. I could go on and on with all the memories I have with her. I am so thankful for the time here I had with her. Twenty-six amazing years. I love you so much Yummy – more than words can ever convey. And I look forward to the day when I will see you with our Father!

Update

So I haven’t blogged in awhile. Mainly because I have been crazy busy at work. The annual upgrade to our flagship software product is about to be released. So as usual this is the second busiest time of the year for me. At least it isn’t happening during Thanksgiving…which it has in years past! On a happy note….the Twilight Soundtrack was released today. Listening to it right now. The soundtrack has made me only more excited for the movie which comes out in a couple of weeks! My hubby is such a good sport and is going to dare to cross the throngs of all the teeny-boppers who are awaiting just as eagerly as I am for the movie release at midnight on Thursday, Nov. 20th. I mean….I don’t have the date memorized or anything. I started the dreaded packing project this past weekend. Yes we are moving. No I don’t know where we are moving too yet. That’s the million dollar question. We may be chillin at my parents house for the month of December while we figure things out…..an incredibly kind and generous offer. That’s about all I can come up with right now. Next time I sign on we will have a new President of the United States.

Tagged!

So fun! That is the question…..

I have recently had an inkling to go back to my natural roots – yes those who have met me in the past three years say “natural roots?” Yep it’s true – I haven’t been blonde all my life :) I love it when people look at me and say no way when I tell them my natural color is brunette – and a pretty dark brunette at that. Kudos to my hairstylist that those who have met me in the “blonde” period of my life have no idea it’s not natural. Jackie really is a fabulous hairstylist – the best of the best! I don’t know if it’s the Fall weather or what – or maybe it’s just me wanting a change – as I do pretty often. And since my haircut is pretty short – I can’t change anything too drastically with that. So I started toying with the idea of color – and what it would be like to go back to brunette. My hubby is supportive of whatever I do – I know – I’m so lucky :) So we shall see what I walk out of the hair salon tonight as – blonde or brunette! I'm reading the fourth and final book in the series Breaking Dawn right now. I would be finished already if work didn't get in the way. I seriously take this book everywhere hoping for a few minutes to read in between the daily life things. I always love to read - and I always have a book in my bag. But it has been awhile since a book or series had me so caught up - so obsessed. Probably the last series was Harry Potter. But I don't think I was even this crazy over Harry Potter. Just ask my hubby - he can tell you. I had about a 30 minute conversation with a co-workers kiddo who is in the 6th grade about the series. She told me that it's all anyone talks about in school. Which is kinda crazy that a book can get the young teeny bops going all the way through their "old teachers" - aka my moms age group. She said the kids and teachers talk about them non-stop. Who would have thunk a love story dealing with vampires and werewolves would be the rage! Now I just need to find out how this all ends so I can start sleeping again!

Fun Times at Katy Horse Show

Most of you know that I disappear most weekends to go ride my horse Mr. Magoo. This last weekend we went to a horse show in Katy. It was a blast!!! Magoo was good boy – really proud of his 1st place win in an over fences class with 20 horses in it. And he placed 8th in the hack against 17 horses – huge deal for us!!! There were of course a couple of blooper moments. My old trusty horse decided he was going to act like a 5 year old in my second over fences class on Saturday and became a wild man. Liza (trainer) asked someone to please remind Magoo of his age when we came out of the class – it was kind of a catch 22 though – even though he totally tried to run away with me – I was happy because it showed he was really feeling his oats and having way too much fun in the show ring. That makes me excited and happy he still loves his job so much after all these years!!! Overall – the weekend was a great success – and most importantly – I had a ton of fun. Back when I was younger – if I didn’t win – I don’t think you would have heard the words “I had fun” come out of my mouth unless I was going home with a blue ribbon. Now, I just feel so blessed to be at a horse show with Mr. Magoo – the first place ribbons are icing on the cake. Shout out to Christian and Tonic who took home a first place ribbon in the Adult Jumpers on Saturday!!

Walk of Shame with Two Different Shoes On

One part of my theme song “It Happens” says

“Missed my alarm clock ringing
Woke up telephone screaming
Boss man singing his same old song
Rolled in late about an hour
No cup of coffee, no shower
Walk of shame with two different shoes on”

Yesterday I was so deliriously tired that I really did live out that last line. My mom was due for some much needed stress relief from taking care of my grandmother and she was free from her duties for the night. What activity did we decide was the best way to achieve some much needed stress relief? SHOPPING!!! Specifically boot shopping. We are always too late in the season when we begin our annual boot shopping hunt. This year we were going to be on-time – well we actually ended up being early. As in where in the world were the boots? Nordstroms had some – Dilliards and Macys hardly had any. So strange – normally we are too late and the selection is super picked over – this year we were too early - craziness. That never happens but once we thought about it we realized we are still in September. Maybe the boots will make their debut in October. Whenever they decide to take over the shoe departments – my mom and I will be ready!!!!

I Heart McD’s Coffee

If you know me well you know how much I love coffee. I can’t always drink it but when I can drink it I’m pretty happy about it and it better be good :) I also have a dear affection for Starbucks. I was a rather frequent visitor in college and unfortunately I think a lot of my extra spending money went to my luxury coffee habit. However, I have found a grand substitute. One that is so good I hardly ever buy coffee from Starbucks anymore unless it is a specialty coffee like an Americano or Mocha. I have found what I love the most about Starbucks is the atmosphere….and I can relish in the atomosphere without breaking the bank by just sitting and reading my book sans pricey coffee. Although once it gets cold I really love mochas and it might be harder to bypass Starbucks. But back to the point. The wonderful coffee substitute I have discovered is McDonald’s regular coffee and iced coffees. I can get a small coffee for $1.18! Yes I know…back in the day you could get it for $.50 or whatever or I could make it at home…but I don’t. I have been so blown away by the yumminess of McD’s coffee. I actually now like their regular coffee better than Starbucks daily brewed coffee. I know it’s heresy but it’s true! I think it’s because McD’s is not as strong and I can’t handle Starbuck’s strength anymore. Oh and the iced coffees are delish! I strongly recommend the vanilla iced coffee. So if you are looking for a Starbucks substitute with all the taste without the price…try McD’s…you just might be surprised!

Prayer for those in Ike's Path

Praying for those in Ike’s path right now. Probably be good to get down on our knees for the whole Ike situation.

Dancing Queen

I finally went to see Mama Mia the other night with Nicole. She rocked the house! I went home after the movie and danced around the living room with Greta while signing Dancing Queen. Mike looked on and laughed. My puppy dog loves to dance with her mama :) So yes - for one night - Greta and I were Dancing Queens!

It’s all about pH balance people!

I’m sitting here at work and my eyes are bugged out as usual after a typical Monday. Monday’s are filled with numbers. It’s so ironic because my least favorite subject in school was always math. Yet my Monday’s are encompassed with math – sales figures, ROI, percentages, yuck, yuck and more yuck. So while my mind decompresses from the world of math I thought I would blog about the new info I came across last week. You know about the latest diagnosis in what has become my health saga for the past year and a half. I started thinking on Friday how I have issues with acid reflux and now I have a definite diagnosis of IC. Is there any underlying big picture here that I'm missing here? And I swear the Lord popped one word into my brain: ACID. Well duh. Why did I not think of that before? Of course! Acid reflux is due to an excessive amount of acid in your stomach. And the IC flairs occur because my bladder is irritated by acid. (Sorry if that’s TMI but it’s the truth). So obviously my body’s natural pH is out of whack - I must be too acidic. Now what should I do about that? Well of course I went to the internet and started to Google about the body’s pH balance. Boy did I find a wealth of information out there. Lots of people are totally convinced that a lot of sickness is due to the fact that our bodies pH is totally out of balance due to the typical American’s diet. I had no idea that certain foods were acidic. I mean I knew the basics – coffee, tomatoes, alcohol, onions, ect. But I had no idea meat became acidic once our bodies broke it down. And what is the majority of food that we consume? Meat! Or at least us non vegetarians I guess I should say. So I am going to give this a go and try to eat a diet consisting of 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods for the next couple of weeks and see how I feel. A balanced diet would consist of 60% alkaline foods and 40% acidic foods but since I am trying to become less acidic I will bulk up on the alkaline foods for now. Up until now I was definitely consuming more acidic foods than alkaline foods without even realizing it. I will tell you though after three days of doing this I can already tell a difference…..my acid reflux is subsiding. I don’t think this is a coinkeedink. If you are wondering what is an alkaline food and what is an acidic food – check out the following website – it gives you examples of foods in each category. Interesting stuff. It’s all about pH balance people! :) http://www.trans4mind.com/nutrition/pH.html

Hello Love

I downloaded Chris Tomlin's new CD Hello Love from iTunes today. Wow. I have been so blessed to have lots of animals in my life growing up over the years. Max and Katie were my parents dogs when I was born. Then we got Shiner and Clara towards the end of Katie's life. And of course I have so many cherished memories with my pony, Revision. Revision was my Christmas present from "Santa" when I was in the fourth grade. To this day that is my most fond Christmas memory I have as a child growing up. I mean what little girl doesn't want to wake up to find a note under the Christmas tree that Santa had given her a pony. It was awesome. Little did Santa know that Revision would live until I was a Junior in college :) So this is a little poem about the animals in my life whom I miss dearly.

Ode to Shining Stars

In Remembrance of the wonderful animals of my life
Max, Katie, Revision, Clara, and Shiner

You knew me as a young one
Always so patient and kind
What more could a child ask for
But for the love you gave every time

So many years we spent together
Outside rain or shine
You always were there for me
Time after Time

I will miss you all the days of my life
Always a shining star in my mind
You gave me so much joy
I so wish we had more time

As you rest yourself in God’s good hands
I thank Him all the time
He gave me all those years with you
Now rest in peace you blessed beast

Book/Movie Review

While I was out of work sick all last week….I did a whole lot of two things: sleeping and watching movies. I think we rented around 10 movies total last week…seriously…I know….Blockbuster was my new friend last week. I was able to catch up on chick flicks that I otherwise would not have rented if it were a movie night for Mike and me. I do have to give him some credit though…sometimes he gives in and watches a chick flick. Out of the ten movies that I rented…two stuck out as my faves.

Movie number one was Penelope w/Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon. (Reese also produced the movie.) Christina Ricci plays the main character – a “blue blood” heiress who is cursed with a pig snout. To break the spell she thinks she has to marry another “blue blood” rich boy. Nobody will of course because of her pig snout. But really the whole time it was in her power to break the spell…once she realized she loved herself as she was…pig snout and all. It was a great movie about inner beauty and loving yourself as you are – something we don’t normally see on screen today. I loved it and highly recommend it – oh and for you guys – Mike came in towards the end of the movie and got hooked. So it’s not just for the ladies!

Movie number two was P.S. I Love You. Hilary Swank plays the leading female role. Now first I have to give a forewarning. I cried through this entire movie. It’s a beautiful film about love but it is really really sad too. Hilary Swank’s husband dies of a brain tumor and in his dying days he writes all of these letters to her and has them sent to her after he has passed away with instructions on things to do to help her cope with his death. The entire movie I kept putting myself in her shoes – thinking about how I would react in that situation and I kept thinking about how you really have to live everyday like it’s your last because you just never know when your time will be up. Yes it sounds depressing…and again…I cried the whole movie. But the acting was superb – storyline was really good – I really loved it. Just watch it with a box of tissues.

My first book review (oh how exciting!) is about Twilight by Stephanie Meyers. It’s the first book in the Twilight saga series. I had heard about these books for sometime now. I try to keep up with the “newest and coolest” books out there. It’s just kind of my thing. I am not a huge science fiction person - although I did love the Harry Potter series – but lately everywhere I kept turning I felt like these books would appear or someone would be talking about them. Mike and I were in Barnes and Nobles one night reading (if you can’t find us during the week Barnes and Nobles should be your first place to look…yep I’m a big book worm and my poor hubby has to put up with my B&N obsession :) and I wasn’t totally into the book I was reading. B&N had a huge Twilight display at the front of the store and I decided what the heck and picked the book up to buy. Well later that night I was sucked in and I could not put the book down. I am now reading the second book in the series New Moon. So it’s a bit different from Harry Potter in that it’s a love story from the start. But the storytelling on Stephanie Meyer’s part is fabulous. She totally sucked me right in just like J.K. Rowling did. It’s very rare now in my “adult” (did I just write adult…clarification…I don’t feel like an adult though) reading life that I stay up super late to read a book…but this series is proving to roll into my sleep time at night. I highly recommend the series if you are 1) a Harry Potter fan and 2) a fan of love stories.

Diagnosis

Ok so I haven’t blogged in awhile since I started this blog. Mainly because I haven’t been at a computer in about a week and a half for any length of time. I have been sick...and without giving TMI basically I have been diagnosed with condition called interstitial cystitis….an autoimmune disease of the bladder. This diagnosis has explained so much about the past year and a half…mainly why I have been so sick. I’m not going to lie…it definitely is a scary diagnosis to me especially since it’s something the medical community doesn’t fully understand and there is no cure. But I have a great doctor and she is trying to do everything possible to guide me though this…and then of course I am in the hands of the ultimate Healer..the Great I Am. You have no idea how much I have taken comfort in that over the past week. But thankfully I am starting to feel a lot better. Sunday was my best day by far from the past week. I was able to go ride Mr. Magoo (Praise!) and I made it to church too (another Praise!). Mike and I served on the Welcome Team together and greeted people at the front door for the 5 o’clock service at church on Sunday. You can only imagine how serving in this capacity totally hits home for Mike’s personality….and we had a great time serving together. So as I am coming out of this “IC flare” as they call it…I am choosing to remain optimistic that better days are ahead!

“It Happens”…..the song written about my life.

It's my debut blog entry and I thought what better way to start than by writing about something I most recently identified with. So Sugarland released their new album Love on the Inside and I was listening to the album on iTunes (it's terrific by the way) and I came across the song “It Happens”. I immediately identified with the song and I thought “this song was written about my life”. I had Mike listen to it...he laughed, and said, “Yep…you’re right…this song is about your life”. Not sure how they did it but kudos to Sugarland….and it’s a catchy tune too :)

Lyrics to “It Happens” by Sugarland

Missed my alarm clock ringing

Woke up telephone screaming

Boss man singing his same old song

Rolled in late about an hour

No cup of coffee, no shower

Walk of shame with two different shoes on

Now it is poor me, why me, oh me

Boring the same old worn out blah blah story

There is no good explanation for it at all

Ain't no rhyme or reason

No complicated meaning

Ain't no need to over think it

Let go laughing

Life don't go quite like you planned it

We try so hard to understand

Irrefutable, indisputable

The fact is

Psssh

It happens

My trusty-rusty had a flat

I borrowed my neighbors Cadillac

"I'll be right back," going down to Wally World

That yellow light turned red too quickly

Knew that the truck moment it hit me

Out stepped my ex and his new girl

("Sorry 'bout your neck baby")

But it is poor me, why me, oh me

Boring the same old worn out blah blah story

There is no good explanation for it at all

Ain't no rhyme or reason

No complicated meaning

Ain't no need to over think it

Let go laughing

Life don't go quite like you planned it

We try so hard to understand

Irrefutable, indisputable

The fact is

Psssh

It happens

Ain't no rhyme or reason

No complicated meaning

Ain't no need to over think it

Let go laughing

Life don't go quite like you planned it

We try so hard to understand

Irrefutable, indisputable

The fact is

Psssh

It happens

Yeah, the irrefutable, indisputable, absoluteable, totally beautiful fact is

Psssh
It happens
